Elkhorn Slough encore

We returned to the scene of the crime on August 2 with Laura’s parents in a rented kayak. Elkhorn did not disappoint with otters, seals, sea lions, egrets, pelicans, and other birds. Fred is quite the photographer so we have a lot of photos. Here are a few from each boat.

I don’t think they ever realized that the seal was keeping tabs on them.

A fertilizer machine? It stank.

They look a little alien, don’t they?

We had a few nervous moments returning under Route 1 when it looked like Fred and Linda would be pushed into a dock but they very adeptly avoided it. However, that meant they had to continue in a chop past the big sea lion with a gash on his head while John and Laura paddled behind the dock in relatively calm water. After the paddle we had lunch at Phil’s in Moss Landing.

The paddle was several hours longer than usual. Lesson learned: put sunscreen on the backs of your hands as well as everywhere else.
